Hollywood, FL homeowners have plenty of pool builders to choose from - but 'plenty of options' doesn't mean 'plenty of good options.' Picking the right builder is the single most important decision in the whole project. Here's what to look for.
Licenses and Insurance Are Non-Negotiable
In Florida, pool builders must be state-certified. Ask for the CPC (Certified Pool Contractor) license number and verify it on MyFloridaLicense.com. The builder should also carry General Liability and Workers' Compensation insurance - request certificates. A builder who can't produce these documents isn't a builder you want on your property.

Ask for References - And Actually Call Them
Any legitimate Hollywood pool builder can give you 5-10 recent references. Call three of them. Ask: did the project finish on time? On budget? Did anything go wrong, and how was it handled? Would you hire them again? References will tell you more in 10 minutes than any brochure.
Look for Itemized Written Estimates
A real estimate breaks out shell, finish, tile, coping, deck, equipment, plumbing, permits, and allowances line-by-line. Builders who give you a single lump-sum number are almost always hiding either a thin margin they'll recover through change orders, or they simply haven't thought through the project.

Beware of the Lowest Bid
Pool construction is labor-intensive and materials-heavy. If one bid is meaningfully lower than the others, something is missing - either scope, material quality, or reality. The contractors with the lowest bid are also the most likely to come back with change orders, delays, or liens.

Pick a Builder Who Handles the Full Backyard
Most Hollywood pool projects also involve pavers, a patio, landscaping, and often a pergola or outdoor kitchen. Working with a contractor who handles all of it under one roof avoids the schedule conflicts, finger-pointing, and mobilization costs that come with juggling three or four different trades.
